Weekend Getaway in Evora – With the Kids ♥♥♥

It was my little girl’s 10th birthday and I was too busy to bake her a cake. I promised to take them to a city we had never visited in Portugal to spend the weekend while assuring her that she would get a well-deserved cake to celebrate her double-digit. So I quickly scouted the map and found a place historically rich and yet close to Lisbon – Evora.

I quickly contacted the hotel to guarantee the reservation and off we went after school and work on Friday. So departing Lisbon at 6pm with all the weekend traffic of going to the other side of the bridge, the famous 25 de Abril, we finally arrived Evora at about 8pm.

Vila Gale Evora hotel was quite pleasant during the check-in and offered me a complimentary bottle of their brand wine, Santa Vitoria if we spent a minimum of €50 during dinner. The best part came when they also offered us a complimentary cake to celebrate my daughter’s big day the next day. While considering how late it was, we decided to have dinner at the hotel in a relaxed ambient. The receptionist also gave us a map of the city of POI which was quite helpful.

So we had a great meal, we opted for a buffet dinner and it was as diverse as you can imagine. Adults paid €25 and children 10 years and below paid half the price.

Saturday – 19th February

Happy birthday to my little girl, Emma! We had breakfast at the hotel and off we went to explore Evora with the limited time possible. We first drove by the mall, Evora Plaza to get some presents for her which was quite nice and buzzing with people.

Afterward, we went to the Roman Temple which had the ruins from the Roman times and it was breathtaking I must say the least. With lots of tourists there, taking pictures, you could also find the Evora Museum right in front of it and an inn beside it. Visiting the museum was the next in line and it was only €2.50 per person and children under the age of 10, were free. And guess what, it was this little fee for the entire day. The lady at the museum reception, handed us English leaflet guide as there were other languages also available like Portuguese, French, German and Spanish. But having arrived there at almost lunchtime, she advised that they close for lunch, reopen at 2.00 pm and we were welcome back after lunch to continue the tour.

So why not? We seized the opportunity to tour as much as we could so as to have lunch afterward and for the kids to go to the pool in the evening as I had promised. I knew we had little time to spend in Evora as we were scheduled to return to Lisbon the next day and wouldn’t be able to return to the museum.
