A room facelift is necessary once in a while especially when it is done in colours. The essence of vibrant colours in a home says so much about a person and well-being. Don’t get me wrong when I say vibrant colours as tastes vary from person to person especially when it relates to home decor.
For me, as the seasons change, so do my tastes change when it comes to my home decor. Simple changes in one or two places can go a long way to bring fresh joy and purpose to the ambient in a home.
In this post, I will touch on 5 simple changes you can make in your living room to bring back the spark and feeling of wellness.
Table Runners
Tables especially with wooden decor tend to be boring when left bare. I sometimes see people place a flower vase on the table centre but I do not think that on its own is enough. With a colourful table runner, you can be sure to take that table from a minimalist to a chique look with just the ideal table runner. Table runners can come in various designs, colours, prints and fabrics. Depending on your household and if you have little kids, you tend to go towards silicon table runners for easy cleaning. Although this does not mean that you cannot get the cotton ones. The choice is all yours. For spring, I like to use floral printed table runners, and during the summer, something very colourful and cheery works for me.
During the fall and winter, I change my mood with the season by placing fall colours of deep orange and later on switching it to red or green to welcome the Christmas season. My preference for the table runners placement is to go horizontal on both sides – chair to chair especially for a 4 chaired dining table. You could also use one table runner to run from one end of the table to another. Whatever works for you is what you have to go for. I like to switch things up once in a while for a different feel each time.
Colourful Curtains
I cannot stress the power of a beautiful curtain in your living room. It speaks so much volume when you enter a room. Curtains for me should be interchanged occasionally to fit the ambient of your home. It also makes a statement about your personality. I always look at a curtain and the way they are draped to understand how a person is and what their style is geared toward. As the seasons change, so do our moods change and so I like to switch things with the seasons and it works for me. Bold floral prints sometimes do not work for the living room as it makes it very busy makes the space look tighter than normal. Since I like floral prints for the spring, I like to go for smaller floral prints. My curtains are usually double blinds meaning you have one on the interior and another on the exterior.
Like this, I can combine a plain curtain on the exterior which is the one seen in the front and a floral print on the interior or at the back. A more beautiful idea would be to be put a plain curtain on the left side, a floral in the middle and another plain on the other side. It comes out so beautiful especially when you match a plain with one of the colours of the floral print.
For summer, as always, bright colours can never be a miss. I love mustard yellow, pink, purple, you name it be them stripes or patterns. During the cold and wet season, I switch to something darker to adjust my senses to the colder days and earlier nights.
